Terence O’Malley is an attorney who specializes in advising clients and speaking to groups on a wide range of senior long-term planning, estate planning, elder law and financial issues. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and is accredited counsel by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In 2013, KC Magazine included Mr. O’Malley in its list of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Kansas City.
His law practice specializes in family wealth and asset preservation through effective estate, retirement and incapacity planning, elder law and medicaid services, trust and probate administration/litigation, small and family business succession planning and charitable gifting strategies. Mr. O’Malley is licensed to practice law in Kansas and Missouri.
He is the former supervising principal of the investment advisory firm of National Pension & Group Consultants, director of asset accumulation for Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company and director of financial products for Forrest T. Jones & Co., Inc.. His experience includes the manufacturing of retirement investment products, providing compliance for employer retirement plans (403(b) and 457(b)) and directing wholesale distribution of annuities, senior whole life insurance and mutual funds. As the principal of a brokerage marketing securities, Mr. O’Malley was required to hold securities licenses demonstrating expertise in a broad range of financial specialty areas: Series 6 (investment companies and variable contract products); Series 63 (state securities regulation); Series 65 (investment advisory representation) and Series 26 (supervision of distribution of investment products and variable contracts).
Mr. O’Malley is a seasoned litigator having served as staff trial counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and Senior Counsel to Forrest T. Jones and Co. where he supervised litigation nationally. Mr. O’Malley tried numerous cases as an associate at the law firms of Niewald, Waldeck & Brown and Cohen, McNeile, Pappas & Shuttleworth and has successfully argued before the 8th Circuit, United States Court of Appeals. He is a former law clerk to the Hon. Dale E. Saffels, U.S. District Court Judge.
Mr. O’Malley graduated with Dean’s Honors from Washburn University School of Law and holds an M.S. in Rado-TV-Film from the University of Kansas and a B.A. in English from Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a graduate of Rockhurst High School in Kansas City. Early in his professional career, Mr. O’Malley was the Southeast Bureau Chief for the Alaska Television Network and he is the former deputy press secretary to the Governor of Alaska (not Sarah Palin) and press secretary to the Alaska House of Representatives.
